Coltivare
The Heights is a new growing and exciting part of Houston. When you want to escape the hustle and bustle of inner city, it is nice to be able to take a 10 minute drive north to the Heights. It is not abnormal to see more bicycles than cars, and don't be surprised if you walk into a random restaurant and come out having had the most amazing meal of your life!
Coltivare is one of my favorite Heights restaurants because it really exudes all that is cool about the Heights. You can almost always expect around a 30 minute wait so be prepared. When you walk in you are immediately in front of the "hipsterest" of bars. The drink menu is very unique with a whole section dedicated to craft whiskey cocktails. My personal favorite is called the El Nino which reminds me of a fancy margarita.
Their food menu consists of many fresh and in season options. When we go we usually order the Arancini and one plate from the Salumi section. They are all great! As far as entrees are concerned, they like to stress family style eating so we usually get a pizza (the traditional pepperoni and shredded pork pizzas are wonderful) and a pasta. We have tried the spaghetti which is super flavorful and probably the most underestimated item on the menu.
Bottom line is, you can't go wrong with anything on their menu! Hope you enjoy when you visit!
Tips:
1. Get there early or plan on waiting!
2. If you are on the wait list, go to the bar and order an El Nino...You won't regret it!
3. Parking isn't easy so don't wear uncomfortable shoes.
