We are pregnant!!
Wow, writing this post seems to surreal.
Growing up, I knew I eventually wanted a family one day. I knew that I wanted to take my time and make sure I found my person first and the past year and a half with Bryant has been so amazing! We really just started settling in after a year of traveling pretty heavily when we realized that it was probably time to start trying.
Motherhood is such a blessing and I definitely feel that more and more everyday but if I am being honest, the first trimester was not the easiest for me. When I thought about writing this post, I realized I wanted to talk about the good, the not-so-good, and the AMAZING parts of being pregnant in your first trimester.
Finding out:
Bryant and I had been trying for a couple of months. I came home from work one day and realized "oh my gosh! I think I should have started two days ago!" The reason for this is because I was googling what short cycles meant. Menstrual cycles typically occur anywhere from 21 to 35 days and I realized my cycles were typically shorter. Once I pulled out my calendar, I saw that I was (by short cycle standards) two days late.
I told Bryant and his eyes sort of looked at me a bit longer while he said "okaayyyyy, so what are you going to do?" and I just said "I guess I am going to head to CVS for a test!".
I remember very clearly as Bryant and Wylie sat downstairs watching TV, I was upstairs 10 minutes later taking my test. First one....positive. Second test....pregnant. I looked at myself in the mirror and for the first time I thought "Wow, this is heavy!"I almost had an out of body experience and as I came downstairs to tell Bryant, the extra second I looked at him, I think he knew. I told him and we hugged. We were both so excited!
The Morning Sickness:
One piece of advice, don't google during your first trimester. Morning sickness takes all forms and I am also a sufferer of both IBS and Acid Reflux so I knew I was in for a tough first three months.
The first thing that set in was the fatigue. I have always been a good napper but THIS type of fatigue is a little different. My one piece of advice if you are working is set up a pillow and blanket in your back seat that way (if needed) you can take your lunch break and actually nap.
Also, the nausea is tough. BUT my one piece of advice for this is eat consistently. It may seem like that would make it worse but anytime my stomach was empty, I felt awful. Anytime I had a little food in my belly, I noticed that I felt better.
Telling our parents:
Keep a look out on my Instagram feed for some SPECIAL videos that we recorded. :)
We definitely wanted to make it special for our parents and we didn't wait long. We told them at 4-6 weeks so it was early but the timing was great because two of them were celebrating birthdays!
More to come on this...
Few Details:
Due Date: September 21st, 2019
Sex: We will find out and let you all know eventually
How many children in our immediate family: None
Name: We have discussed this once or twice but we will be waiting on this a little longer :)
Feeling like a mom:
I don't think the feeling of being a mom really hit me right away. I hope no one judges me for this but I think I was extremely cautious to accept that I was pregnant just because of all of the hazards and things that could happen in the first trimester. It was kind of a defense mechanism for me or a way to guard my feelings.
I would say that I finally let myself get excited about being pregnant around 9 weeks. Once I had that ultrasounds where you can see a head and a body, it became real. I can't express how cool it is to hear a heartbeat THAT YOU CREATED!
God is so good and I am so thankful to be carrying a life inside of me. We will see what this year has in store and I know there is SO much I have to learn but for now, I am trying to just finally enjoy the thought of bringing life into this world and creating God's precious gift to me and Bryant.
